The house is quiet. Our new dog Cookie is asleep next to my feet.

I’m reading. Angel is outside with Brandi. Aaliyah and Aspen are playing in her room.

The house is quiet. Just like it is when everyone is asleep.

It’s nice.

The difference between their birthdays is incredible. With Bonnie’s, since I’m still coming off the high of mine, when hers arrives 8 days later, I’m sad but okay.

With Barbara’s, I have this sense of dread that lords over me for 12 days after July 4th. I hate it.

At least I recognize it though.
